Private Debt Collection Update
On March 5, 2009, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced that the IRS Private Debt Collection (PDC) program would be discontinued. The last taxpayer accounts assigned to private collection agencies were returned to the IRS for review and processing on July 16, 2009.
In the event that a collection agency purporting to be representing the IRS in a tax collection matter contacts you concerning a federal tax debt, please notify the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) immediately by calling toll free: 1-800-366-4484.
